How To Replace Tail Light 2014-17 Subaru Crosstrek

How to install, repair, fix, change or replace a broken, damaged, burned out, cracked, faded, cloudy or chipped tail light / brake light on 14 Subaru XV Crosstrek.

step 1 :Removing the Tail Light
- Open the hatch
- Remove the 10mm bolts from the tail light bracket
- Pull the tail light out
- Disconnect the tail light wiring harness

step 2 :Replacing the Tail Light Bulbs
- This step is only necessary if you are replacing the tail light bulbs
- Turn the base of the bulbs counterclockwise
- Remove the old bulbs
- Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the old bulbs
- Connect the new bulb to the wiring harness
- Insert the new bulbs
- Turn the base of the new bulbs clockwise

step 3 :Installing the New Tail Light
- Reconnect the wiring harness to the tail light
- Line up the pins on the tail light to the pin holes on the vehicle
- Replace the 10mm bolts into the tail light bracket

Open the hatch. Tail light is held to the body. Two 10 millimeter bolts and a clip that's out here. These also have a Phillips head opening in them. You can use a Phillips head screwdriver. But I'm going to use a 10 millimeter socket and ratchet. It's a little bit easier. They shouldn't be in there very tight, and they should come right out. Put this bolt aside so I don't lose it. I want to move to this side.
Basically there's a clip right here, so it needs to push straight out. There's a couple pins holding it in. I'm going to push from the back. It does sound like it's breaking, but it takes a good amount of force to get it free. I was sliding it off of this pin that slots into here in the tail lamp, and then it also needs to come off the two little pins here that are located here. Once it's out, there's a main connector.
Now push in the lock. Pull it out. The whole tail light assembly can be removed now. To reinstall it plug it into the main harness.
To reinstall it, we're going to want to line it up and slide it over that pin. And it's also going to slide over these locating pins here. So get it just lined up like that, push it over, and push it straight in. It'll snap when it's in place. Reinstall the bolts. Do the same for the other one. This procedure will be the same for both sides.
