How to Replace Tail Light Combination Junction Block 1999-2014 Chevy Silverado

Created on: 2020-06-08

Watch this video to learn how to install a new tail light combination junction block on your 1999-2014 Chevy Silverado.

Tools needed

  • Hammer

    Rust Penetrant

    Pry Bar

    Center Punch

    Pocket Screwdriver

So now to start doing this job right here, what you're gonna want to pay attention to is the order in which these wiring harnesses are in. You're going to notice you have an orange, a black, a blue, and a gray. Go ahead and take all these off. And you might get a little bit worried about if you mix them up. Well, that's a good thing to be worried about. But if you were to look at your new one, it's going to clearly be marked on the areas where each thing should go, blue, purple, you know, gray, orange, black. With that said, if you were to grab on this tab right here, squeeze it, and then pry away, this should slide right off. It's always a great idea to look inside of your wiring harness pigtails to make sure you don't see any funny colors. If it's good, set it aside.

Let's go ahead and spray down this area with a little bit of penetrant, just to help things move around a little bit easier. Just grab a little punch or whatever you might have, a pry bar that you're allowed to bonk on, and a hammer, drive it out. There it is, friends. Carefully grab your unit, line it up just like this, and then slide it inside the slots. You can help it along using a nice easy pry bar just like this. Bring it so it's all the way matched up with this area right here and make sure it's completely secured in. If you can slide it out, it's not secure.

Let's get these pigtails connected back in. Do the gray on the top. Give it a nice tug. Make sure it's in there. Grab that blue, it's gonna go right here on the left. Awesome. Now, we're going to grab the orange, come right here on the right, click it in, give it a tug. And of course, we'll grab the black one here, slide it right in there, give that a nice tug as well.
