How to Replace Tail Lights 2001-04 Ford Ranger

In this video, we're going to be working on our 2001 Ford Ranger, and we're going to be showing you tail light replacement. We're actually going to be showing you the performance style tail lights that we sell, and it's the same for 1990 to 2012 Ford Ranger.

Here are the items you'll need for this repair: Phillips screwdriver

To remove your tail lights or change the bulbs, first open up the tailgate. Four Phillips screws hold it in: 1, 2, 3, and 4. Remove those. Then your tail light comes right out.

To change the bulbs, you need to pull the tab on the wiring harness and then off, and then turn it counterclockwise. The bulb just then comes out of the socket.

Put it back in. Same thing with this one, although you don't have to disconnect it, you just pull it out. Also, your tail light is out.

New performance style tail light from 1AAuto.com, and here is our original. This is off of a 2001 Ford Ranger, and the important thing you can see is that the mounting points are exactly the same. On the back the mounting points again are the same. This light's going to install just like the original, but it has the look that you want for your truck. These do come as a pair. At 1A Auto, we actually sell the regular replacements as well.

Reconnect your bulb, and then the grey one has two ears on it. It goes into two slots. Tighten it up. Bring this one in. Turn it to tighten it. Just make sure that the harness is kind of pulled over like that, and put it into place.

Replace your screws. Start all four screws first, and then tighten them up. Then repeat the same process for the other side.
