Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks!
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the washer pump. This is a 2003 Honda Civic. This process is basically the same for many vehicles, but this video will help you for 2001 to 2005 Civic Sedan and Coupe. Items you'll need are: new washer pump from 1AAuto.com, flat-blade screwdriver, 10mm socket, ratchet, and extension, some wire ties if your vehicle's in as bad of shape as we are, and then some fresh washer fluid.
Pull the lever right here. Open your hood, secure it with the prop rod. There are four clips at the top to remove. There are indents on each side of the outside so that you can work a screwdriver underneath and pry up the center. Pull the clip up and out. I'll repeat that for the other three.
At the front of the wheel well on each side there's a 10 mm bolt right here you need to remove, and again, this is on each side. Also, on each side, you'll want to pull the wheel well down; this side's very broken on this vehicle, but pull it so it's like this, and it's not holding the bumper cover.
Underneath, there should be a series of these pushpins just like the top. There actually may be a couple of 10mm bolts thrown in as well. This vehicle has run over a few things, and then put together with wire ties. You need to either remove the clips, undo the bolts I'm not even sure how many of them I could tell you should be here, probably anywhere from 6 to 8. We'll go ahead and do that on this car. Release each side by pulling firmly, and then you may have to pull a little bit and it'll come off.
We're on the driver's side in front of the wheel, and here's our washer bottle and here's our washer pump. You're going to want to disconnect the pump. There's a little tab here. Use a screwdriver, press the tab, disconnect. Then you'll want to disconnect the hose here. When you do this, if you have fluid in your bottle, it's going to drain out. Now you can just grab your pump and pull. It's out.
Make sure that the grommet is in place. Push the pump in so it's in the grommet and it's locked in place. Put your hose back on. Reconnect your electrical connection. Refill your reservoir. Cap back on.
With the bumper cover back in place, make sure you go underneath the latch lever and end up on the headlights. Then put these clips back in to hold it in place. Reinstall this 10mm bolt on each side. Once the bolt's back up in push your fender, inner fender, or in this case what's left of the inner fender, up and in. On this side, this corner's was all broken, so we actually put a plate in there, and screwed it down into the bumper cover. It's not beautiful, but it's going to make at least the bumper cover pretty much stay where it should be. There should be a bunch of clips in here, but they were all missing from this car, so we're going to put it back together the way it came apart using some wire ties, and secure the bottom. Close the hood.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
