How to Replace Window Regulator 2004-09 Dodge Durango

step 1 :Removing the Door Panel
- Pry off the trim piece inside the door handle with a flat blade screwdriver
- Remove the Phillips head screw inside the door handle
- Remove the two Phillips screws at the bottom of the door panel
- Lift the door panel up and off
- Disconnect the latch cable from the door handle
- Disconnect the window switch wiring harness
- Carefully peel off the water shield

step 2 :Removing the Window Regulator
- Disconnect the window motor wiring harness
- Remove four of the five 10mm bolts from the window regulator
- Loosen the fifth bolt
- Lower the window by hand
- Loosen the two 10mm bolts that hold the window to the regulator
- Separate the window from the regulator
- Pull the window regulator out through the door
- Raise the window by hand
- Hold the window in place with painter's tape

step 3 :Installing the Regulator
- Insert two of the bolts into the window regulator
- Push the regulator into the door
- Hang the regulator by its bolt
- Insert the five 10mm bolts into the regulator
- Connect the window motor wiring harness
- Remove the painter's tape from the window
- Lower the window onto the regulator
- Insert the two 10mm bolts that hold the window to the regulator
- Pop the window switch panel out of the door panel
- Connect the window switch wiring harness
- Test the window with the switch
- Disconnect the window switch wiring harness

step 4 :Installing the Door Panel
- Push the window switch panel into the door panel
- Connect the window switch wiring harness
- Connect the latch cable to the door handle
- Lift the door panel into place
- Insert the Phillips screw into the door handle
- Insert the two Phillips screws into the bottom of the door panel
- Push on the trim piece inside the door handle

In this video, we show you how to remove and reinstall a rear window regulator on this 2005 Dodge Durango, pretty much the same as any 2004 to 2009 Durango, as well as the Chrysler Aspen. Tools you'll need are pretty simple: a small flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a 10mm socket and ratchet and, actually, probably a 10mm wrench would work as well, and some painter's tape.
First, there's a little trap door here. Just use a small flat-blade screwdriver, and go in and pry it out. Then you have a Phillips screw there, as well as one down here and one further back. I'm just going to speed it up here as I use, obviously, a Phillips screwdriver to remove those three screws. Once you have those screws out, lift up, and pull out on the panel. Back in here you'll see a little blue clip. Pull that blue clip off. Pull that up and out and then your connector for your window switch is right here. Press on the little tab. That's your door panel off. .Even though I do this in fast motion on the video, you want to slowly and carefully pull your water shield down so you can access the inside of the door.
Right here is where your connector is connected. Just push the tab down and pull that off. With a 10mm socket, you basically want to remove all these bolts: one, two, three, four, and five. I'm going to fast-forward as I'm removing those bolts. I did make one little mistake. For bolt number two, the second one I pointed to, you do not need to remove that bolt.
As I start loosening this one up, you'll notice that the window will start going down because the whole assembly is now free, so I'm just going to kind of hold on to the window. All I'm doing is kind of putting some pressure on the window towards me. The regulator came out.
Slide it down now and there's two more 10mm nuts right here. Put my socket and ratchet back together, and undo this one. Just loosen it up and then put it back up, and loosen this one up. Now I take this track, slide it forward and the regulator comes off. Now you're going to pull the regulator up and out.
As you can see, I've raised the window and used some painter's tape to support it. Our original regulator for this vehicle is in good shape so I'm going to reinstall it. New regulators from 1A Auto are going to go in there just like the original. The only difference would be is that they do sometimes have a pigtail, which you just kind of bring out of here, hook up and then just make sure that the pigtail stays out of the way. To put it back in, you want to have these two bolts installed. Put it down through the bottom of the door and in, that bolt comes through and that bolt comes through. Start this bolt in. You can see that this bolt, I didn't need to remove. Start this bolt in.Like we usually do, just fast-forward here as I tighten up those bolts nice and firm.
I'm going to reach back and put the lead there. Here's your bracket. All I'm doing now is I'm removing the tape on top here. I let my window slide down. I put the bracket back on and I'll tighten this up. Tighten this one up.
If you want, from the back side, pop your window switch up. You kind of have to squeeze on the back side, and pop it up and out of your door panel here. As a little test, hook it up on here. Turn your key on, and make sure everything works well. Shut the key off. Disconnect the switch and put it back into your door panel, then put your water shield back up in place carefully. Make sure that you pull the lock up right and pull the door latch rod through.
To reinstall your door panel, put your window harness up in, reconnect it, bring this out, push it down in, and clip on. Then you want to find the, if you look down, there's clips. Now, you have all these hooks, so you look at the bottom ones, and make sure you get the bottom ones in. Bring it up. Make sure your lock down in behind. Make sure your lock comes up through. Push the panel on. Make sure it goes in flush and then lock it down. Put your three screws back in. Again, we'll fast-forward through that. Three Phillips screws, tighten them up, and then tighten them nice and firm. Don't over-tighten them, though. Put this little trap door back on.
