step 1 :Removing the Headlight
- Remove the three 10mm bolts from the headlight
- Disconnect the headlight wiring harnesses

step 2 :Removing the Windshield Washer Pump
- Disconnect the windshield washer pump wiring connector
- Have a drain pan ready
- Pull the washer pump off of the washer fluid bottle
- Disconnect the hose from the washer pump with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pull the grommet out of the washer fluid bottle

step 3 :Installing the New Windshield Washer Pump
- Push the grommet into the washer fluid bottle
- Push the new pump into the washer fluid bottle
- Connect the wiring harness to the washer pump
- Connect the hose to the washer pump

step 4 :Reinstalling the Headlight
- Push the headlight into place
- Insert the three 10mm bolts into the headlight
- Connect the headlight wiring harnesses

step 5 :Refilling the Washer Fluid
- Open the washer fluid cap
- Pour washer fluid into the bottle with a funnel with a screen
- Use paper towels as a screen if necessary
- Close the washer fluid cap

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the windshield washer pump on this 2005 Hyundai Elantra. It's the same for any 2001 to 2006. You do have to remove the passenger side, or right front, headlight, which is not that big of a deal. The only tools you'll need are a 10mm socket with a ratchet and an extension.
To access the washer pump you're going to need to remove the headlight. It's not too difficult of a procedure. There are two bolts that hold it on top. They're both 10mm. Then there's a bolt down in behind you'll need an extension to remove. We'll speed up as Donny uses his 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the two bolts on top and then he adds an extension to make it easier to get to the one down in the back. I'm going to remove the two connectors at the backside of the headlamp assembly. The first is the big square one. The next one is on the blinker assembly, and, for the blinker connector, you need to push the tab in and pull out. This is the tab here, so you push that in and pull it out. I'm going to pull the assembly out now. I'm going to take it from the grille side first. Just wiggle it until it comes out.
Find your washer pump and remove the connector. Pop it out of its housing and wiggle the pump free. Note that we have a splash pan to catch washer fluid underneath. I'm using a little flat blade screwdriver to remove the hose. I pull out the little rubber grommet.
I'm putting the rubber grommet back in the reservoir. Once I have that seated, I put the pump back in. You want to make sure that you don't push the grommet into the washer reservoir when you do that. Then reconnect your harness and your hose that feeds your washer nozzles.
I'm going to reverse the procedure and go ahead and slide in the side first. My holes line up just like they did with the other one. We'll speed up here, a little bit, as Don installs the bolts. He starts them by hand, first, and then tightens them up nice and firm with the 10mm socket, ratchet, and the extension for the one in behind. I'm reattaching the two connectors to the back side of the lens assembly.
I'm going to refill the washer reservoir and we use a funnel with a screen in it so that we don't get any debris in there that would clog the pump. You can also just put a paper towel into your funnel to help you filter out any debris, but once you fill that back up, replace the cap and you should be good to go.
