In this video, we're going to be working with our 2008 Chevy Equinox. We're going to show you how to remove and replace your windshield wiper arms. These can get worn out down at the bottom with the spline or the spring can break, and your wiper won't stay down firmly on the windshield.

Here are the items you'll need for this repair: painters tape, 13mm socket, ratchet, socket extension
Open your hood. Remove the hood prop from its clip. Place it into its slot under the hood to secure it. Now, we're going to do the driver's side wiper arm, but if you need to do the passenger side, it'll be the exact same steps.
As with any mechanical mechanism, there's going to be a little bit of play in that wiper, so we're going to push it down to where it stays and then just make yourself some kind of reference mark to make it easier to reinstall it in the same place it came off of. We'll go off this hard plastic piece in the center of the wiper. Just lay down right about where it sits with some painter's tape. That way, when we reinstall the arm, we know approximately where it needs to go back.
Remove the 13 millimeter nut at the bottom of the wiper arm with a 13 millimeter socket and ratchet. I'm just using an extension to stay out of the way here, but you can use one if you're more comfortable. Now, we're just going to grab the wiper arm up here and just wiggle it back and forth a little. You can see every time I move it there it gets a little more slack on the stud. Push down and wiggle the arm while lifting up on the end there, and it'll pop off the splines. We're going to remove our wiper out of top of the hood there just because it's a little bit easier.
We'll set the wiper arm back underneath, set it close to the splines, and then rotate it back to where it wants to sit on the windshield. Wiggle it back onto the splines, just to make sure that it's going to stay where you want it to. Right about there should be good. Reinstall the 13 millimeter nut, and until this sits on the splines, there is a possibility that you could move it while tightening it down, so go ahead and just put your other hand on the wiper arm to keep it in place while we tighten this with our 13 millimeter socket and ratchet.
You'll see and feel, as I tighten it down, that the wiper arm base steadies itself, becomes a little straighter, stays on there. That means it's down on the splines. Hold the wiper so we don't turn the motor while we tighten. Make sure it's on those splines good, then remove your reference mark from the windshield. Remove your hood prop, close your hood, and you're good to go.
