Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
This video applies to Volvos from approximately 1999 to 2010. It's shutting off the service engine or service-vehicle-soon reminder. This is not a substitute for having the vehicle serviced. This is usually because, sometimes, the dealership will forget to turn it off, or, as we found, the first time you do it, it's not always successful so you have to do it twice. Maybe the dealership didn't do it twice or it just didn't go off or something, so this is for those cases. Again, this is not a substitute for having your vehicle serviced.
All right, if your service light just came on or maintenance required and you just had it done and it came on and they didn't reset it for you at the dealership, we're going to go ahead and show you how to do it right now. It's just a couple steps. You turn the car on. It's got the time-for-regular-service light on, and in order to reset it, you're going to put your key in to position one, put your finger on the trip-odometer reset, wait for it to go to double zeros. Okay, so one important tip: make sure you have some miles on your trip odometer. You don't want to have just reset it to zero before you try to do this, and to reiterate, In position one, we hold the trip odometer down until it goes from whatever it reads to zero. Then once that happens, without removing our finger from the trip-odometer reset, we turn it to position two. We turn the key to position two. Turn your key to position two. Once you put it into position two, when your trip odometer goes back to reading what it read before, then you take your finger off the trip-odometer button and turn the key off.
You can see now that it's off. Okay, just a quick summary. Put your key in. Turn it to position one. Hold the trip-odometer reset button down until it goes from reading whatever it was reading to zero. Then, without removing your finger from the trip-odometer reset, turn the ignition key to position two. Then, once the trip odometer goes back to reading what it was reading before, then you can remove your finger from the reset and shut the key off, and it should be all set. Just a note: we did accidentally turn the blinker on in this video, and that was just an accident on our part. It's not something that's necessary for resetting that service-engine light.
