Andy points out the most common problems with the 2011 to 2015 Kia Sorento, and gives you tips on how to keep them in check.
In this video, we're going go over the top five problems on this second generation Kia Sorento. Number one, the ignition coil packs. Now, they're located right here. There's the front three, and the back three are underneath the intake. The symptoms you're gonna find with bad coil packs is the engine running rough, a check engine light, it may even be flashing. Whenever you have a coil pack that's bad, it's always a good idea to replace these spark plugs. And for the coil packs, it's not too difficult. There's a bolt right here, connector right here, the coil pack slides right out, slide the new one in and you're good to go. The only problem with the back coil packs is the intake is in the way. So you have to remove the intake when you do that. You wanna get a new intake gasket, you should not reuse the intake manifold gasket.
Number two, the AC compressor clutch. It's located right here. And this is basically what pumps your AC refrigerant through the system. The symptom you're gonna find is the air conditioning system not working at all. And when someone checks the AC refrigerant levels, the levels are fine, and it's due to the clutch itself. When replacing the clutch, normally, you have to replace the compressor with it, they come together. And when doing this job, you're gonna have to have the refrigerant recovered from the vehicle, replace the compressor, and then reinstall the refrigerant back into the vehicle.
Number three, headlight bulbs. Luckily, on this vehicle, they're actually pretty easy to replace, there's a little cap on the backside of here. Just twist that cap off, and then you can access the bulbs fairly easily, both from the driver side and the passenger side. And the bulb slides out like that, just make sure you don't touch the glass part of the bulb. It's always a good idea to wear gloves. You can pop off the bulb and slide it back in the same way it came out, and put the cap back on and you're good to go. That being said, it's probably a good idea to keep a couple extras in your glove box just in case they do fail while you're out on the road. Another thing you can try is upgrading the bulbs to an LED version of the same bulb. They're gonna last longer and they're gonna be a lot brighter.
Number four, the radio. You may notice that some of the functions aren't working properly, whether it's the Bluetooth, the satellite radio, or even no sound coming out of the speakers. The good thing about this is it's only a glitch in the radio system. There's no parts required, you don't have to bring it to the dealer to fix it. Just like your desktop computer, whenever you have a glitch, the best thing to do is reset the computer. Same thing with the radio, you're gonna have to reset it. To do that, you're gonna disconnect the battery. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, let it sit for about 15 minutes. When in doubt, you could always let it go a little bit longer than 15 minutes, reconnect the battery and you should be good to go. Oh, I love this tune.
Number five, the backup camera. Now, on some of the later models, they had backup cameras, this version doesn't actually have it. But they'd be in this location. And what happens is, when the backup camera is not working, there's something wrong with the camera itself internally, the best way to fix it is to replace the camera itself.
