Top 5 Problems Saturn Aura Sedan 1st Generation 2007-10

In this video we're going over the top five problems on this 1st generation Saturn Aura. Number one, the automatic transmission. Now these vehicles had many different types of automatic transmissions in them. This doesn't happen to be the one that has the common failures, but the one that does is the 6-speed automatic transmission. Some of the symptoms you may notice is a check engine light or the transmission not shifting properly. You may find a harsh shift in third or fifth gear and potentially no reverse. And the reason for this is the 3-5-R Wave plate. Now this plate is supposed to be wavy. It kind of works like a spring. Over time, sometimes these break and will cause internal damage to the transmission. The only thing you can do is have the transmission removed and replace the damaged components.

Number two, the EVAP vent valve. Now it's located right here at the back of the gas tank right up there. The symptom you're going to have with a bad EVAP vent valve is a check engine light within EVAP code. Whenever you have an EVAP code, you always wanna first check the gas cap. Make sure it's tight. Make sure the seal is good and not cracking and make sure the ratchet part of the cap is working properly. The hard part of the vent valve going bad is the fact of where it is. You would either need to remove the tank or remove the rear suspension to gain access to it.

Number three, the cooling fan fuse. Now you may notice that your cooling fans are not working properly. A lot of times, one of these 30 amp fuses will blow right here in the fuse box. Some of the symptoms you may notice if one of these fuses blow is the engine running a little warm or even overheating and also your air conditioning not working properly. In the event that you have this problem, the best thing to do is try another 30 amp fuse. Some people are have been known to replace it with a 40 amp fuse, but when you do that, you have to update the wiring and update the fan motors.

Number four, wheel bearings. You may notice while you're going down the road that you hear a howling or a humming type noise coming either from the front of the vehicle or the back of the vehicle. Most of the time that's because the wheel bearings are bad. Now you can raise the vehicle up, give it a shake, see if there's any play there, there may not be any play. You can also spin the wheel while you're holding onto the spring. The spring kinda emphasizes or amplifies the noise and you may build a feel it there. And that's a good way, good indication that that wheel bearing is bad. In the event that you have a bad wheel bearing, unfortunately, the only thing you can do is replace the whole bearing hub assembly.

Number five, the combination switch or the turn signal switch. Some of the symptoms you may notice is when you use the turn signal switch and you go to return, it may not go back to its neutral position. You may also notice a problem with the headlights if you turn to different functions, they're not working properly. And the only thing you can do is replace this switch.
