In this video, Andy breaks down the top 5 most common problems you might find with your 5th gen Impreza!
In this video, we're going over the top five problems in this fifth-generation Subaru Impreza.
Number one, the blower motor. You may notice while you're driving down the road while you have the heater or AC on that the blower motor is squeaking and giving you a loud squeal-type noise. It's always a good idea to take the blower motor out, and just inspect to make sure you don't have any leaves or debris in there. If not, it's going to need a new blower motor.
Number two, the outer tie rods. Now the front outer tie rods are located right here, and that's part of your steering. And when you're going down the road, if there's some play in the steering wheel, it's probably because the tie rods have loosened up, and they need to be replaced. To check those outer tie rods raise the vehicle up, shake the tire back and forth. While you're doing that, if you want to look or if someone else can look while you're doing that, and just see if the play is in that joint right there, and if it is, it's got to be replaced.
Number three, in relation to the tie rods, the lower ball joints go bad also. Now those are actually pretty easy to replace. You have nuts right here, and they're bolted in from the top. And to check those, it's very similar to checking the tie rod ends. When you're shaking the tire back and forth, you'll just see movement down here. Keep in mind, after you're done doing either one of these jobs you're gonna need to have the vehicle aligned.
Number four, EVAP canister vent hose, which it's located right here. It goes up behind this wheel well. And it's not so much that the hose needs to be replaced, but that a spider will go inside the hose and create a blockage, and that's gonna cause a check engine light. And all you basically need to do, take this hose off, clear it out, whether you use water or compressed air. Put it back on, clear the code, and you should be good to go. In relation to that, you have this leak detection pump that sometimes has problems. So if it's not the hose, it could be the leak detection pump, and that's gonna cause an EVAP code. So if you have a check engine light with an EVAP code, one of those two things.
Number five, the Bluetooth app Starlink. Now this being a newer car, we had trouble finding a lot of other mechanical problems that were pretty common on this vehicle. But the Bluetooth app is fairly hard to use and doesn't always work right.
