In this video, Andy points out the most common problems that you might find with 2007 and up Toyota Tundras, and offers you tips and suggestions on how you can identify and fix those problems yourself!
In this video, I'm going over the top five problems on this second-generation Toyota Tundra. Number one, the secondary air pump. Now, on some vehicles it's located underneath the intake, and it's fairly difficult to get to, there's a lot of work involved to actually get to the air pump. On this vehicle, it's actually located underneath the passenger side fender well. It's right behind here, and there's actually two pumps. And what those do is pump air into the exhaust system for emissions purposes when you first start the vehicle out when it's cold. When those fail, you're probably not gonna see any drivability issues other than the NA check engine light.
Number two, ignition coils. Now, they're located on top of the valve covers, and the ignition coil is what gives the spark plug its spark. When you have a bad ignition coil, you're gonna notice that the engine runs rough and you have a check-engine light, and it probably will be flashing. To replace the coil, you just disconnect the connector, pull the bolt out, and it's recommended that you replace the spark plug whenever you're doing the coils.
Number three, front hub bearings. You may notice while you're going down the road that you hear a loud noise, and it may change while you turn the wheel back and forth. If you lift the vehicle up and you grab the tire right here and here, just give it a shake back and forth. If you feel excessive play, most likely it's from the hub bearing. Sometimes bearings can make noise without any play, though, so you may have to spin the wheel, see if you hear any noise, sometimes grabbing the coil spring, holding the coil spring while you spin it, and if you feel the vibrations through the coil spring, again, it's probably in the hub bearing.
Number four, the O2 sensors. Now, there's four of them, two are located behind the catalytic converters, and there's two in front of the catalytic converters. If the rear O2 sensors have a problem, most likely you'll just get a check engine light and they just have to be replaced. When the front O2 sensors have a problem, you may have some drivability issues and a check engine light. It is recommended that if you are replacing one of the O2 sensors, that you just replace all four at the same time.
Number five, the exhaust manifolds. Now, the exhaust manifold is located right here, and because it's a V8 engine, you have these on both sides of the engine. What generally happens to these manifolds is they will warp and crack, and then you're gonna get an exhaust leak. So, you're driving down the road and you go to accelerate, you're gonna hear a ticking type noise that's probably coming from the exhaust manifolds. The only way to fix this is to replace the manifolds. Make sure you get the gaskets and replace those as well.
So, there's our top five problems for this Toyota Tundra. Overall, these are great trucks. I actually used to own one. If you enjoyed this video, make sure you subscribe to our channel, ring the bell, turn on all notifications so you don't miss any of our videos.
