Top Check Engine Trouble Codes 2001-06 Chevy Silverado 2500 Truck

This is a 2001 through 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with a 6.0-liter engine in it. In this video, we're going over the most common check engine light codes. The first code we're gonna talk about is the P0446, which has to do with the EVAP system. Let's go check out the vent valve, it's down below. The EVAP vent valve is located right up here behind the fuel tank on this vehicle, and it's part of the EVAP emission system, has to do with keeping vapors out of the atmosphere. Now, what this is, is a solenoid valve that opens and closes and allows fresh air to either enter or relieve pressure from the system or vacuum from the system. Majority of the time when you get this code, it's because of that valve because dirt and debris has gotten into the valve, causing it not to seal properly, or it has mechanically failed. The other thing you wanna check is the gas cap. Always check the gas cap if you have an EVAP problem. To replace this, it's pretty easy, there's a connector right here, and normally when you get a new one, they have an updated harness, so this one has been replaced before. Then, on the backside, there's a clip and it just slides off, and there's a hose. Normally, there's not a worm clamp here but this one has a worm clamp. Sometimes you have to cut the pipe and install a new hose like this one.

Next, let's talk about the P0332 which is a knock sensor code. If you have this code, you're probably not gonna notice any driveability issues, you'll probably just notice a check engine light on with that code. On this vehicle, the knock sensors are located underneath the intake, so you're gonna need to remove a bunch of parts just to access them. You're gonna need to remove the snorkel, the engine cover, a bunch of the other things on the side, the fuel injectors. The only major specialty tool you're gonna need is a fuel rail release tool. When you pull the intake up, the intake gasket itself should be replaced whenever you pull it off, and also there's a wiring harness that's connected to the knock sensors, that's replaceable, it's a good idea to replace that as well.

The last one we're gonna do is kind of a tricky one, it is a P0101 which is a mass airflow sensor code. You think all you have to do is take a new MAF sensor, install it, and you're good to it. Plot twist, it's actually more common to have a vacuum leak from the intake manifold gasket. One of the ways to check this is while the engine's running, spray a carburetor cleaner all along the sides of the intake. If you see any change in the engine RPM flare or anything, most likely, that's your problem, not the MAF sensor. Just because you have that code, doesn't mean that's definitely the answer. You wanna check everything on the intake side and make sure everything's tight.
