Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to service the bulb as well as replace the entire headlight assembly on this 2000 Toyota Celica, and it's the same process on the Toyota Celicas from 2000 to 2005. The only items you'll need are a new headlight assembly from 1AAuto.com, a Phillips screwdriver, a flat blade screwdriver and a 10mm socket and ratchet.
Not only do new headlight assemblies allow you to see farther and better, but they also take years off the front of your vehicle. You could see here, it looks dull, old. Brand new ones are shiny, and new. It just looks a lot better. Again, here's old and dull, and bright and new.
To replace the headlights, you start off by just removing this panel which has a Phillips clip, and two punch-out clips. You're clips may vary. I don't think these are actually the clips that came with this vehicle. You could see we have quite a few missing anyways. We'll fast forward as Don removes these. You want to twist out the center on the Phillips head clip, and then just pry out the clip. For the other ones, you just want to punch in the center and then pry them out. With the clips removed, the panel just comes up and you can set that aside.
On the headlight, you can see it's secured with one 10mm bolt there. It's clipped to your washer fluid bottle and there's another 10mm bolt up there. We'll fast forward as Don first removes those two 10mm bolts. To release this, you just pull the tabs out on the sides and lift up. Now, with the headlight unsecured, you can just pull it straight out. Now, you want to disconnect the harness. For this one, just pry out the tab and pull it off. The one next to it just pulls right off. For the other two, you just push in a button on the clip and disconnect it.
Now, if you're just replacing a bulb, you just pull off this boot. Set that aside and you just want to pull up the little wire clip and then your bolt comes right out. You just push your new one in, put it back down and put that retaining clip back on and replace your boot. For this one, it just twists out. Then you just twist your new one in. These last two bulbs, you just twist the socket out, and pull the bulbs straight out. You push your new one in and twist them back into place.
In the back is the old headlight, and the front is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see much better condition. You're going to be able to see a lot farther, a lot brighter and your car is going to look a lot better. The new headlights come with some packing retainers. You just want to pull off the cover and then there's a wire tie in there. You can just clip and pull that rod out. That just holds things steady and then transfer over the bulbs from your old light or if you want, install new bulbs.
Now, to insert your new headlight, you just want to reconnect those harnesses. Now, for your headlight, you just push it into place. Now with your headlight in place, you can reconnect it to the washer bottle filler and then we're going to fast forward here as Don replaces those two 10mm bolts.
Now you just want to put that cover back into place and replace whatever clips you have.
Here's just one more picture to show you the difference. You can see the new one just looks so much clearer, so much brighter, and will work so much better. It makes your car look better. You're going to want to do the same thing to the other side, and it's pretty much the same procedure. There's very little difference. There is a difference in where they're clipped, however. Where the passenger's side is clipped to the washer bottle neck, you'll realize the driver's side is actually connected on the outside to the fender panel.
