Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the tailgate handle bezel on this 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500. Sometimes these bezels just crack or break. It's a pretty simple replacement. The only tools that you're going to need for this is a Phillips screwdriver and a 13 millimeter socket and ratchet, as well as a flat-blade screwdriver.
Using a Phillips screwdriver you want to remove these ten Phillips head bolts that line this tailgate panel, and also you want to remove these two 13 millimeter bolts here. We'll just fast-forward as he removes all of these. Now, with all of those removed, you can remove that tailgate panel, and then you just want to remove this one 13 millimeter bolt right here.
Once that's removed, you want to put your tailgate up. Now you want to stick a flat-blade screwdriver behind the bezel and just pry it out. It should come right off.
To install your new one, you just want to put the handle up inside the bezel. You want to run the lock through the square on the handle, and then just push that bezel into place. On the other side of the tailgate, you want to replace that 13-millimeter bolt. Now you want to take your tailgate panel and put that back into place. We'll fast-forward as he replaces the 10 Phillips head bolts and the two 13 millimeter bolts.

Good parts challenging installation

All the parts are there. One of the actuator rods lacked the 90 degree bend on one end.Did that in my vise to fix. Not much on installation fettling, which is definitely needed to make the clasps grab and trap the pinion correctly, while still letting the handle release. That took some real fiddling.

Bought this kit mainly for the handle, and figured I'd swap out other parts since stuff was all rusting due to winter road treatments. Went with this kit even though it wasn't the cheapest because I appreciate the videos 1A auto puts out to aid in install, and looked like this would work well. Aftermarket handle is missing one big crucial piece of strengthening plastic that runs side to side closer to the pivot points that is present on OEM handle. Not having this bracing makes handle twist when you pull up on it, and I can almost guarantee this will be broken soon.
