What's up guys, I'm Andy from 1A Auto. In this video I'm going to show you how to check the fluid level in your transfer case on this 2015 Chevy Silverado. If you need parts for your vehicle, click the link in the description and head over to 1aauto.com. Now what you want to do is raise and support the vehicle make sure the vehicle is level.
Place the drain bucket underneath the transfer case. I'll take a 18 millimeter socket and a ratchet. I'm going to take this plug out. This is the fill plug. You don't want to take this one out. We pull this out some fluid may come out a little bit. It's dripping. Which is good. Now if the fluid wasn't dripping out and wasn't at the base of that fill line. What you can do is take a wire tie and just bend it and make yourself a little dipstick.
Slide this in here and push it down to the base of that and then pull it out. You should be able to check the level. Levels right up to the top. If your transfer case isn't filled up, you're going to have to use the appropriate fluid and top it off till it starts pouring out a little bit or us a little dipstick like we showed you earlier.
The fact that the fluid is up to par for what level it should be. Then we're all set to put the fill plug back in. I am going to take a little pipe sealer, put it on the fill plug, just on the threads. That's going to keep it sealed better move it around with your finger. Now, I'll take this fill plug with the sealer on it, get that started, took my 18 millimeter socket and ratchet, tighten this up a little bit.
I'm going to take a torque wrench with that 18 millimeter socket, I'm going to torque this to 13 foot pounds. It's important that you torque this or don't tighten it too tight because it's very easy to crack the case of the transfer case, because it is aluminum. Now we'll take a little brake parts cleaner, clean this up, use a rag and we're good to go.
