Watch this video to learn how to replace the engine air filter in your 10-14 Subaru Outback. Check your air filter regularly!
Hey, friends. It's Len here at 1A Auto. Today, I'm working on a 2013 Subaru Outback. I'm going to be doing something very simple, replacing an air filter. If you need any parts or instructional videos, you can always check us out at 1AAuto.com.
All right. So, here we go. We've got the hood up. We've got our brand new filter. I'm going to come over. I'm just going to grab these two clips right here. I'm going to grab my box. I can wiggle it around a little bit. If we need to, we can try to bring it up and out just like that. Our air filter's located right inside here.
Let's see if I can grab it. Here we are. As you can tell, these are same size so that's great. Looks like it should work perfectly. We can go ahead and install this one. As you can tell, there's also a lot of debris inside here, so it might be a good idea to look inside your air filter box. If there's a whole bunch of crud in there, you can try to clean that out. It's probably a good idea.
So, I'm going to take the air filter, I'm not going to put it in this direction. I want to put it in this direction. As air comes flowing up through here, it's going to go through the air filter, get caught in all these little baffles right here, and the air filter's going to do its job. It's going to be nice and clean on the backside, and nice and dirty on the front side. That's what I'm hoping this is going to do with the new one.
By replacing this air filter, I'm going to notice a severe change in my fuel economy judging by the look of the old one, so that's always going to be nice, right? The bottom of the air filter housing, there's a couple little slots and the bottom of this--there's two prongs. Those two prongs need to go into the two slots that are inside this, and then you just kind of give it a little squeeze. Put your clips in. Here we are.
Every time you put it together, you always want to give it a tug see if you can separate that bottom. What could happen is is even though you've got the slot down there and you got your prong, what if you tried setting it in and it went like this, right? Then, you come up here and it feels good. The bottom's going to be this far apart. It's not going to be making a connection. You could suck dirty air straight up and into your engine. That's going to be pretty costly. An air filter's fairly cheap in comparison to an engine.
So, now we've completed the service. If you need any other parts or any instructional videos, you can always check us out at 1AAuto.com.
